Malta, today a member of the European Union, is the perfect location for companies seeking entry in the EU markets.  The island has an impressive wealth of high-grade human resource, known to adapt itself easily to change, as well as a state-of-the-art telecommunications network, which is quite unique for a country of this size.  Since its independence from the United Kingdom back in the 1960s, many investors from the UK, Italy, Germany, France, United States, North Africa and the Middle East have recognised Malta’s strengths and chosen the island as a location to strengthen their international activities and thus enhance their competitiveness through consolidating their position in global and regional markets.

Malta enjoys excellent relations with all countries in the Mediterranean. Thanks to its long-standing tradition as a trading country within this area, it plays an important role in reaching and penetrating the markets of North Africa and the Middle East. Malta is the only western nation to have a double taxation treaty with Libya. Equally relevant to foreign companies with interests in North Africa and the Middle East, is the logistic activity carried out to and from Malta for product warehousing, sorting, repackaging and shipping all possible thanks to Malta’s impressive transshipment and warehousing facilities.

Malta has carved itself an important presence within the international business community.  Its highly productive manufacturing sector is home to more than 200 international manufacturing and distribution companies, a fifth of which have undergone major expansion in the past five years, and new foreign investment continues to swell Malta's growing economy. A highly attractive incentive package, a stable economic and political environment, excellent language skills and a productive labour force are just some of the reasons why so many companies are now looking to Malta as their first choice for foreign investment.
