Gozo is the main sister island of Malta which, when compared to the overall area of the Maltese Islands, covers approximately one third of that area. Over 31,000 people live on the island, which amounts to one-twelfth of the overall population of Malta. These companies are supported by the efficient transport service provided by Gozo Channel Co Ltd, the main ferry operators between Malta and Gozo. A boat trip between the islands takes around 20 minutes each way. Companies operating in Gozo benefit also from the support of the Gozo Business Chamber and the Ministry for Gozo.
The Government of Malta has recently declared its intention to make Gozo an ecological island. In this regard, projects that stimulate positive environmental issues such as pollution control, clean technology and energy management will be given priority in the evaluation process to set up in Gozo. Enterprises in Gozo benefit from the same legislative and regulatory systems similar to Malta.
