Gozo is the main sister island of Malta which, when compared to the overall area of the Maltese Islands, covers approximately one third of that area. Over 31,000 people live on the island, which amounts to one-twelfth of the overall population of Malta. This means that the island of Gozo is not over-populated and therefore greener and much more peaceful. The main sources of income in Gozo are from tourism, agriculture, fisheries, services and a number of small and medium sized enterprises.  The labour supply in Gozo is sufficient to meet demand for skilled, semi-skilled and professional workers.

A number of companies that are based in Gozo also service international markets.  These include HSBC Bank Malta p.l.c., that operates a back-office service centre; Magro Brothers (Foods) Ltd, manufacturers of tomato sauces and other food products; Savina Creations, manufacturers of traditional delicacies; Pamargan Products (Malta) Ltd, manufacturers of rubber to metal bonded seals for high pressure applications; Merit Precision Tools Ltd, designers and manufacturers of  plastic injection moulds and stamp tools, predominantly for the automotive industry; FXB Group Ltd, that manufacture furniture, also for the hotel sector; and Cruise Answers Gozo Ltd that operates a call centre to service international clients for cruise holidays; Datatrak Solutions Ltd, involved in the provision of GIS solutions, Fleet Management Solutions and Mobile Workforce Solutions for the local and international markets; and 6pm p.l.c., providers of IT solutions and services for the local and international markets.

These companies are supported by the efficient transport service provided by Gozo Channel Co Ltd, the main ferry operators between Malta and Gozo.  A boat trip between the islands takes around 20 minutes each way. Companies operating in Gozo benefit also from the support of the Gozo Business Chamber and the Ministry for Gozo.

The Government of Malta has recently declared its intention to make Gozo an ecological island.  In this regard, projects that stimulate positive environmental issues such as pollution control, clean technology and energy management will be given priority in the evaluation process to set up in Gozo. Enterprises in Gozo benefit from the same legislative and regulatory systems similar to Malta.

Local and international companies that are interested to consider investing in Gozo can contact Malta Enterprise on info@investingozo.com to obtain more information on the special incentive package being offered for new projects.
