Malta Enterprise as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (hereinafter referred to as ‘CSR’) efforts, is inviting visual artists to submit up to 6 artworks in all visual art media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, etching, illustration, photography, textile, mixed media, digital, sculpture and ceramics, to participate in an upcoming exhibition:
The Pandemic - Survival, Art & New Action
Artistic vision
Responsibility to encourage human adaptation in this time of global crisis is at the core of ME’s CSR strategy. This, in the belief that good support networks encourage human development leading to economic growth and increased sustainability.
Collectively, we have been placed in unprecedented chaos that has shaken our false sense of security and belief that there is a routine to life based on a sense of constancy. Levels of anxiety and unease shot up as many faced social isolation, loss of physical contact and a consequent decline in health and mental wellbeing.
The pandemic has led to a series of losses, from our sense of safety to our financial security. Coupled with the heightened economic uncertainty and the global environmental challenges around us, the notion of SURVIVAL gained a whole new level of meaning.
In times like this we need artists not only to engage artistically in processing perceptions of life through these shifting times, but we also need them to present their visions, new ones. The power of thought to generate possible solutions when facing emerging challenges requires action. Moreover, research complements artistic creativity and in turn forms NEW ACTION.
Scope
The scope of this call is twofold. By bringing together artists who explore/d the concepts of Survival and New Action as part of their ART during the Pandemic, it aims to offer an exhibitive platform in the foyer at Malta Enterprise, the country’s economic development agency. Malta Enterprise interacts with the main economic negotiators and investors in the country, offering an ideal space where artists can engage with a new audience. This makes Malta Enterprise an ideal agent to enable professional, young and emerging artists.
ME takes great pride and a sense of responsibility in its CSR. As the leading economic development agency we are highly committed to initiate and support events that can truly make a difference to the community. We want to contribute to improve the wellbeing of people in our society. Art makes a difference in how we live our lives and allows us to communicate, generating positivity, appreciation and hope during Covid-19.
In addition, while promoting the Arts, Malta Enterprise will also be supporting University Research in collaboration with the Research, Innovation and Development Trust (RIDT) of the University of Malta. The RIDT is financing research projects in all areas of study including PhD scholarships in medical research such as cancer, ALS and also other non-medical areas, such as climate change and art conservation. University researchers are steadily developing new ideas that drive technology, enhance public policies, and nurture a healthier and happier community, in order to improve our quality of life.
Selection Process
Selection of works will be carried out by a panel of judges consisting of Ms. Pamela Baldacchino (Lead Curator & Artist) together with Ms. Lisa Gwen (Curator), Ms. Therese Debono (Photographer) and Ms. Anna Grima (Artist).
In view of our physical space limitations, a maximum of 16 artists will be selected to physically exhibit their works at ME’s foyer (1 – 17 December 2021).
