Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced a €33-million investment generating 132 new jobs within the Safi Aviation Park. Dr Muscat together with Dr Chris Cardona visited ongoing works for the development of the Aviation Cluster in Malta, including the building of 3 new hangars by Malta Industrial Parks, the construction of a hangar for the repainting of commercial narrow body and wide body aircraft, the building of a new hangar by Medavia to be leased temporarily to SRT, and the business expansion of SRT.
The Safi Park already houses Medavia, SRT, Aviation Cosmetics and very soon an aviation training facility. Apart from Safi Park, the aviation services cluster in Malta also includes Lufthansa Technik and MCM, both of which are situated at Park 4, and Aeromaritime which is situated at Hal Far.
Infrastrucal works are being carried out to cater for the need to expand the aviation services industry further in order to provide the facilities need to widen the range of services that Malta offers in this sector and to make it possible for new and more ambitious foreign direct investment.
Malta Industrial Parks is building 3 more hangars at Safi Park to provide a total of 36,000 square meters of hangar space. The total investment on these hangars will be 5.5 million Euros of which about 50% will funded by the European Union.
